Dr. Harsh Vardhan launches Integrated Health Information Platform (IIHP)
The Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Dr Harsh Vardhan virtually launched the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP), in the presence of Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare.
The main objective of this platform is to digitize the healthcare sector. This platform is launched under Integrated Disease Surveillance Program in all 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh. The event was chaired by Deputy Mission Director at the state-level which was followed by Chief Medical Officers in their respective districts.
What is Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) and How does it work?
It is a real time, village wise, case based electronic Health information system with Geographic Information System (GIS) tagging which will help in prompt prevention and control of epidemic prone diseases. It will also provide analyzed reports on mobile or other electronic devices. In addition, outbreak investigation activities can be initiated and monitored electronically. It can easily be integrated with other ongoing surveillance programs while having the feature of the addition of special surveillance modules.
In 2016, the Centre had informed the Parliament that the motive behind setting up IHIP was to enable creation of interoperable health records which can be made available and accessible throughout the country. Dr. Harsh Vardhan further mentioned that, “The new version of IHIP will house the data entry and management for India’s disease surveillance program. In addition to tracking 33 diseases now as compared to the earlier 18 diseases, it shall ensure near-real-time data in digital mode, having done away with the paper-mode of working”.
